Spyware in Facebook Apps

Hi there friends,

Lately we’ve been getting a lot of computers infected with spyware at work, and all trails point to facebook apps as the source of such infections. I don’t think all apps at facebook are injected with spyware, but most likely there are quite many. a couple of users that got their computers infected told me they got an email from a friend from facebook inviting them to download an app, upon clicking on the link they started getting warnings on the status bar about virus infections. one of them had this fake antivirus warning at the status bar:

2010 antivirus

the good news is that this fake antivirus is easy to remove by using an anti-spyware removal tool like malwarebytes, but still is annoying for users, and extra work for us.

To be honest, since facebook started allowing everyone uploading free apps to facebook I knew these kind of things would happen. I don’t know what sort of restriction facebook has on people uploading apps to their service, but keeping the bad guys out would be a real challenge.

has any of you caught spyware at facebook.com? let me know in the comment section below.

My anti-virus hasn't detected anything, but sometimes when I try to log in to facebook I get weird messages like it needing to verify my identity, which I don't remember facebook ever doing. Also, it randomly wants me to install plugins that aren't necessary for the apps to run. I don't install them, and the apps still work fine. I hate facebook
