Many of my users ask me for laptop recommendation when they are looking to buy a new laptop. the question normally goes like, what laptop model should I get, a Sony or HP? and I normally reply back with a few questions on my own like, what type of laptop are you looking for? that’s regarding design, performance, durability and price. my recommendations are based on what user is actually looking for.
Design
Sony Laptops are generally more stylish and better looking in design – most Sony electronics have this quality, and they appeal to many people for it. HP equipment in the other hand are not that cute, they are often big, and very rough looking. on design Sony is the winner.
VS
Performance
HP has the lead on this one. HP laptops are big thus allowing them to put good capacity processors and motherboard on them. Sony laptops are good in performance but not as good as HP. so I would say HP is the winner on this one.
Durability
Sony puts quality on their hardware, so commonly their laptops are durable. I have noticed HP laptops have clumsy keyboards, so keys easily fall off. other problems I have noticed on HP laptops is the display. I have had many people calling me about their HP laptops not displaying anything on the screen, all is black even though everything else seems to be normal. so I think Sony laptops are more durable.
Price
Generally Sony laptops are better in design and hardware quality, thus making them a little bit more expensive than HP. the price margin is not that big between HP and Sony laptops, but most of the time Sony computers are more expensive. HP laptops are cheaper.
Conclusion.
if you are looking for a good quality laptop with good design then Sony is the best option. and if you are looking for a low priced laptop with a decent performance HP is the best option.
When was this written? I've been a Sony fan for awhile but haven't purchased anything from them in 4 years. I've heard they have gone downhill in quality and customer support – is this true?

Hi Catherine, I have not purchased any laptop from Sony in awhile neither, but I have friends that have, and they are very happy with it. I think quality wise Sony laptops are much better.
This has got to be the most biased and uninformed review ever. You must have been comparing HP G-line laptops to the Sonys. Those are the basic laptops. If you want a fair comparison of looks, compare HP’ s dv-line to the Sonys.

my HP laptop works very good
