GPS for Samsung Behold

One of the great features about the Samsung behold 2 is the built-tin GPS, the only problem is that it does not come with a free GPS navigation software, so you have to pay for one if you want to use the GPS. I believe the TeleNav app cost around 9.99 dollars per month. the good news is that Google recently released Google Map navigation for android 1.6 ( donut) and android 2.0 the bad news is that behold 2 comes with Android 1.5 ( cupcake) and Google maps is not supported on this version. but I have made it work using a hack I found on an android forum. this is Google Navigation system on my phone:

google Nav

nav2

To get Google Map Navigation, you have to upgrade to Android 1.6 firmware. that’s what I did:

as you probably know, this is not official from either Samsung or T-mobile, but I could not afford to wait for the official release, if there is any some day, so with the help for from developer named “BAHMAN” I was able to upgrade the phone. you can follow the upgrade thread here and do it if  you can follow the instructions posted there. I will follow up with a more detail instructions for those of  you less techie.

till then now.
