Recently I upgraded my T-mobile phone to Samsung behold II which comes with Android 1.5 installed. weirdly enough, T-mobile shipped this phone with Android 1.5 when Android 2.0 was ready, but according to some rumors Google is the one that chooses which phones get the latest version of Android, so I guess T-mobile is excused for that. anyways, I got this phone and I absolutely love it. though it comes with a lot of bloated apps, including a piece of junk called “touchwiz” from Samsung which I totally hate it, but after getting rid of all the stuff I did not need including the touchwiz, I was left with a very nice phone, very fast, and the battery last for ages.

the phone comes with GPS built-in, but with no navigational maps, so you can either buy one, or find a free one. Android 2.0 which only the Verizon Droid has it right now comes with Google Maps which support turn by turn navigation. after searching the web for awhile the only free maps I found for Android 1.5 was AndNav which happens to be an open source project. you can find the maps and more info about it at this URL http://www.andnav.org/ most mobile navigation software require a data plan in order to work, but AndNav allows to download maps onto the SDcard for offline navigation.
If you know about any other GPS Maps/Software for Android 1.5 please let me know.
Luckily the Behold II has an update release for Android 1.6 which allows you to use Google Maps Navigation which is free WITH VOICE TURN-BY-TURN!! Sorry, I got excited.
If you are stuck with a 1.5 phone such as the CLIQ XT your only free options at this time is "Waze" and AndNav – good – but Motorola, please release an update.
